Operation Breakthrough - In addition to direct donations,
Realty Co. further supports the efforts of Operation Breakthrough
by providing space for storage of generous public and private
sector holiday gifts. These donations help ensure that
a great number of children being raised at the poverty level
will experience the joy of a Christmas toy. Operation
Breakthrough's overall mission is "to help children who
are living in poverty develop to their fullest potential by
providing them a safe, loving and educational environment." Over
400 children are served weekly by the St. Vincent's Family
Service Center. From its 1971 inception, it has grown
from a modest organization serving a few into a very important
community resource offering diversified assistance programs
to hundreds.
Project Warmth - In the early 1980's,
The KC Star and KCTV5 teamed up to sponsor the Project Warmth
campaign, dedicated to making winter and summer months more livable
for thousands of the community's needy residents. Since its
inception, the campaign has collected 1,943 tons of clothing,
blankets and non-perishable food--over 4,710 bags of coats and
2,050 blankets were distributed to 85 agencies in 2005. Cash
donations were used for rental and utility assistance, with absolutely
no administrative fees or salaries paid from monetary donations. Dean
Realty Co. donates the warehouse space used to sort and distribute
the tons of items collected at local malls in November each year. These
donations help ensure families stay warm and fed through the harsh
Kansas City winters.
